Custody

Booking
Next, you will be booked. You will provide basic information such as your name, address, and date of birth. You will also be fingerprinted and photographed. The prosecutor will then make a decision on what charges will be filed.
Arraignment
Following booking, you will appear in court. Your charges will be read and you will decide how to plead. At this point, you may be able to leave custody by posting bail. This process involves paying money to the court with a promise that you will return for your future trial date.
Although this process may sound fairly simple, it can be hard to stay calm and remember important information during high-stress moments like being arrested. Many people choose to have a lawyer by their side throughout the majority of the process.
